Amazing Story of Drew Robinson

Hulu/ESPN+ is sponsoring "Alive: The Drew Robinson Story" which is an incredible story of how a major league baseball player survived a suicide attempt on April 16, 2020. After being alone during the Covid lockdowns, Drew found himself feeling suicidal. He battled feelings of not being good enough all his life. He shot himself in the head. At first he didn't feel anything. But there was blood coming from his head. After an hour and a half, he laid down, ready to die.
He woke up the next day, and was still alive. The pain hit. He had to choose to try again, or to call for help. He had the thought that 'I guess I'm not going to be playing baseball again.' When he had that thought, he asked... does that mean I want to be alive? He decided to call for help.
It took a total of 4 surgeries, but he survived. Through the mental battles; he had to face the truth that he was a good person.
The bullet had not hurt his brain. But he did lose his right eye, and his sense of taste and smell.
On April 11, 2021, Drew Robinson tried to make the Giants triple A Roster. His first bat was an easy strike out. It brought a wave of suicidal feelings again. He committed himself to work through them because he ultimately loved baseball.
On April 16, in Drew's second spring training game, and a 1 year anniversary of his suicide attempt: Drew remembered to be grateful for his family, and stayed in a place of empowerment. He had 2 scores and 3 walks. He needed to prove himself over the next 14 games.
On May 6, the Giants triple A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats opened the season in Las Vegas, in Drew's home town. His family got to see him play as the Giant's right fielder. He caught a pair of fly balls, but struck out 4 times. Drew kept his thoughts positive. He told himself he just got pitched really well. Before, he would have told himself it was unacceptable.
2 days later, Drew got his first hit of the season. He also caught a drive hit.
On May 11, Drew hit a home run! He has "Whatever this season brings, whatever his career holds, Drew Robinson has assured his legacy will last far beyond any game."
