The church has removed most of the social checks that used to be in place. There are disasters coming, and there is no longer much of a network to help people during these disasters. When communications get cut off, there is little in place to take care of members who will be in need. I believe this was deliberately done.

What will members do who can no longer receive the word of their prophet? They will then have to turn to the Lord directly for spiritual guidance, which is why I believe the Lord will allow these disasters to happen in the first place.
