Yes, another way of saying it would be, 'Wait and see until you can discern whether someone or something bears fruits, as to them being good fruit or evil fruit.' Then and only then can you know for sure which one it is! In your case, it would be more like, true or false as to your belief in having a specific calling or not. Time will tell...

I have a sister who doesn't necessarily believe in the Book of Mormon nor the LDS religion (she stopped going in college, a whole lotta years ago). She told me that the church she had been going to (I think it was Unity, but I could be wrong) liked to bash the LDS Church - talking about how bad it was, etc. so she stopped going. Even though she had/has no interest in attending LDS services, she was completely turned off. Like you (and me) she did not want to go to church to hear people denigrate other people's religion and beliefs.
Where she goes now is very friendly. Even though it has members who used to be LDS, no one says anything negative about any religion. I visited once and really like it - but I would never be part of it as a religion because it is more of a social club. Jesus isn't mentioned one way or another.
The most I can hope for is to find some like-minded believers and fellowship with them. There is one person here, and we have been fellowshipping once a week (except when it's too icy, cold, or snowy for me to feel comfortable going over there), but I want a little bigger group. I also want people with whom I can freely express my opinions without being cut off if they don't share my belief about something.
You should start a church, it’s super easy.
