Indonesia's Mount Merapi, one of the world's most active volcanoes, erupted on Saturday, March 11, spewing avalanches of lava and searing gas clouds which blanketed villages near the crater.
The volcano located in Indonesia's Yogyakarta special region erupted around 12 p.m local time. The eruption forcing authorities to halt tourism and mining activities on the slopes of the mountain.
Merapi, on the densely populated island of Java, unleashed clouds of hot ash and a mixture of rock, lava and gas that traveled up to 7 kilometers down its slopes. A column of hot clouds rose 100 meters into the air, said the local agency. The eruption throughout the day blocked out the sun and blanketed several villages with falling ash.
At least eight villages near the volcano have been affected by volcanic ash. Videos on social media showed ash-covered houses and roads at a village near the volcano. Fortunately, no casualties were immediately reported.
Residents in the nearby community have been warned to stop any activities in the danger zones, range between three to seven kilometres radius from the crater. Merapi is the most active of more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia. The volcano’s alert status has remained at the second-highest level since 2020 after showing renewed activity.

2) Hydrological emergencies: Flood, Tsunami, Limnological disaster,
3) Fires: Forest fire, Peat fire;
4) Meteorological emergencies: Tornado, Cyclone, Blizzard, Hail, Drought, Tornado, Hail, Hurricane, Tsunami, Storm, Thunderstorm, Tempest
